The inspiration came from the title of the song 'Love Shack' - has to be one of my favourites !

Full description

Love Shack is a papier mache creation which has taken forever to make !

It is about 30 cms tall and about 13 cms wide with a depth of 4 cms. After constructing the Shack from cardboard I have then covered it with a layer of brown paper and then a layer of book paper. When all has dried I have then painted it with a dark grey paint left that to dry and then coated with white paint , dried , then given a good old sanding which then reveals parts of the grey. The roof part has had the reverse treatment. The windows have rusty wire cross bars and the doorknob is a rusty bell and the door hinges are painted linen.

The lady and cat are made from cardboard , covered in paper and then given a thick coat or 3 from homemade gesso and then sanded until relatively smooth - then the best bit was painting them ! I have used gouache for all the interior painting which I have sprayed with a coat of matt varnish to seal and then given a coat of satin water based varnish. Oh, nearly forgot - the star is painted fabric the I have free motion machine embroidered and the door closes with a length of rusty wire.
