Sometimes you discover two fabrics that were simply destined to go together - in this case a length of beautiful 'Harris Tweed' in varying shades of lilac, pink and purple, handwoven by Gordon MacDonald (aka 'A Harris Tweed Weaver') on the Isle of Lewis, and a cotton print of matching pink and purple dragonflies on a soft green background, with metallic gold highlights - together they make one very special bag.
I've used the print as a feature panel on the front of the contemporary style bag and added amethyst purple, rolled leather handles. Inside, the lining fabric is pale lilac, with tiny white spots, and the surprising roomy interior includes a zipped pocket, a handy key hook and a magnetic fastening. The back of the bag bears the official 'Harris Tweed' 'Orb Mark' label that guarantees the authenticity of this unique heritage cloth.
The bag is constructed using fusible fleece interfacing behind the 'Harris Tweed' for structure, and a concealed base of plastic canvas for additional strength and support. The bag measures approximately 34 cm wide by 5.5 cm deep at the base and tapers to approximately 25 cm wide at the top edge. From top edge to base it is approximately 25 cm tall. The gap from the top edge to the topmost curve of the handles is approximately 20 cm, so, when worn on the shoulder the top edge of the bag just tucks under my elbow.
The bag will be tissue wrapped, securely boxed and shipped via Special Delivery.
