This is the very last long piece of reclaimed mahogany that I have, so I wanted to do something a bit special with it. I have been playing around with shapes other than the upturned claw for my hooks, and I particularly like the sculptural qualities of this pebble or almond shape. As with the pebbles on the beach, I wanted to conjure up a random quality to the piece so each individually hand carved hook is screwed and glued at a slightly different depth, height and angle. Although I don't remember seeing anything like it previously, once finished and polished, I felt it had a distinctly retro 70s feel about it, possibly because the mahogany is not dissimilar to all that teak that was used at the time. there is no doubt it is a statement piece and will have your guests wondering why you hang your coats from an art installation!
