The Welsh Dragon is the National emblem of Wales.
Being a lover of folklore I find the legend of the Welsh Dragon fascinating.
A red dragon living in Britain was fighting with an invading white dragon. King Lludd, the ruler of Britain, was instructed that to stop the dragons fighting he must dig a pit to contain them both in the centre of Britain. He must fill it with mead and cover it in cloth. They came, drank mead, fell asleep and were imprisoned. Later King Vortigern attempted to build a castle there but the walls and foundations were destroyed overnight. He was advised to find a boy without a natural father and sacrifice him to stop the destruction. The boy told him that the destruction was because of the dragons trapped in the pit. So, Vortigern opened the pit, freed the dragons, who fought, with the red dragon killing the white dragon. The boy then stated the red dragon represented the people he ruled and the white dragon represented the Saxons.

This unusual Red Welsh Dragon Christmas ornament has been handmade from solid Pine. It has been upcycled from reclaimed wood. This handcrafted Christmas decoration will make a lovely addition to your Christmas Tree. Perfect as a Christmas Gift or Festive Gift.
Approximately 7 cms in heighth, approximately 9.5 cms at its widest point and approximately 0.5 cm in depth.

I am a firm believer in upcycling using reclaimed wood whenever possible. I often recycle the packaging I send out my items in.
A piece of pine was selected and cut to accommodate the size of the decoration. The Dragon was cut using a scrollsaw following a design. Next I sanded it to a smooth finish, slightly rounding over the edges before painting it with red acrylic paint. It has been finished with Danish Oil to protect it. The Danish Oil is food and toy safe. A loop and ribbon were then attached to allow for hanging.
