This bee was from the very first wonderful exhibition of the FIFTY BEES which was held at ACEarts in Somerton, Somerset. There are very few of the first fifty left, and this one in a special favourite of mine.
This is a custom-made item and cannot be returned unless faulty.
Please note that if your order is being posted outside mainland UK, you (or the recipient) may have to pay customs or VAT charges and a handling fee. The seller is not responsible for any charges or fees that may incur.
This is Bee 34b, Hylaeus incongruous or the male White-lipped Yellowface Bee
It’s built into this love, very old, tyre valve tin.
It’s from the very first FIFTY BEES: The Interconnectedness of All Things in 2017 which took place at ACEarts in Somerton.
There’s something very satisfying about holding an old tin in your hand. Especially so when you know that these valves were used to keep people moving, finding work, exploring their locality. Bicycles played a really important role in democratising leisure activities.
I particularly like the way these bee slides out from under the tin lid, and how it sits in the hand.
I do have other bees left from the four exhibitions. Much of these have been shared via the FIFTY BEES Instagram page.
Please do get in touch if you see one that you’d like to give a home to.
