The Welsh Dragon is the National emblem of Wales.
Being a lover of folklore I find the legend of the Welsh Dragon fascinating.
A red dragon living in Britain was fighting with an invading white dragon. King Lludd, the ruler of Britain, was instructed that to stop the dragons fighting he must dig a pit to contain them both in the centre of Britain. He must fill it with mead and cover it in cloth. They came, drank mead, fell asleep and were imprisoned. Later King Vortigern attempted to build a castle there but the walls and foundations were destroyed overnight. He was advised to find a boy without a natural father and sacrifice him to stop the destruction. The boy told him that the destruction was because of the dragons trapped in the pit. So, Vortigern opened the pit, freed the dragons, who fought, with the red dragon killing the white dragon. The boy then stated the red dragon represented the people he ruled and the white dragon represented the Saxons.

This beautiful wooden Welsh Dragon pendant necklace is handcrafted from Oak and Sapele (also known as African Mahogany) wood. It has been upcycled from reclaimed wood. The dragon has been fashioned from Sapele and is attached to an Oak surround. A perfect present for a birthday, Christmas, for your friend, sister or mother.
The pendant is approximately 5 cm in diameter and approximately 0.5 cm in depth.
The pendant comes on an adjustable length 1.5 mm black leather cord. However, the pendant can be attached to silver plated chain if preferred. Please choose from the drop down box for your choice of leather cord or length of chain. Both are attached with a silver plated jump ring and a Lobster Clasp.
The pendant is packaged in a cardboard jewellery box.

I am a firm believer in upcycling using reclaimed wood whenever possible. I often recycle the packaging I send out my items in.
All of my pendants have been cut and shaped from a piece of wood before being sanded to a smooth finish. This pendant was cut using a scrollsaw following a design. The Sapele Dragon was cut separate from the Oak base then glued to the base. The pendant is smooth to the touch and finished with several coats of Lacquer to enhance its natural features whilst also protecting the pendant.
