This small fused glass dish has been made using the 'optic' technique. Dozens of thin (1mm) glass rods have been cut to length and laid out in a repeating pattern of bues, greens and white onto a clear glass base, and overlaid with additional clear glass which, once fused, gives the striking bubble effect as well as the decorative scalloped edge. The technique requires time, patience and a very steady hand. The glass 'blank' is fused together in the kiln, and then fired a second time over a mould, to give the finished shape.
This pretty little dish would look lovely on its own, but could also be used for trinkets, soap, candles, bonbons, loose change etc. It looks stunning displayed on a white surface, as a patterned or coloured surface would show through the clear glass base and diminish the effect - final photo illustrates.
The dish is 15cm square and has a gentle curved shape with a maximum height of 2cm.
