Brass on mahogany is a classic look, evocative of our seafaring history, and a beautiful combination. Add to that the knowledge that these tape measures have had a long life measuring out the long jumps and javelin throws of British youth, and you have a beautiful and evocative addition to your home. Of course the actual tapes don't go to waste, as can be seen from my door screens. The winding mechanisms could be taken out and buffed up with Brasso, but I prefer them to wear their history, as it were.

An absolutely unique gift for the busy household. I have embedded the distressed brass winding mechanisms from five vintage tape measures (the kind the PE teachers got out on sports day) into a solid block of reclaimed Brazilian mahogany and cut a lip into the top to create a letter rack. There is quite simply nothing else like this for sale! Hidden slots for two screws at the rear, L 215mm x H 80mm x D 40mm, waxed finish.
