I love collecting, especially things that have been discarded. Anything that looks lost, forgotten or damaged and not wanted any more. Favourite places of mine to discover bits is rivers or beaches. I am lucky to live near the River Tees, Co Durham and often walk the banks picking up broken glass, pottery anything that can be cleaned and re-created into something new. Another amazing place is recycling centres where for very little I can rescue an old pot or plate. Charity shops have so many interesting pieces, bits and bobs of lives all waiting to find new homes.

For me using shards of ceramic found in rivers is interesting, exciting and a passion. I love the entire experience from walking, looking, peering into the water and discovering bits and bobs of all sorts. I’ve found many strange and amazing things. All shards used have a letter F for family and S for Shards and a number that relates to order of process.

You have 14 days, from receipt, to notify the seller if you wish to cancel your order or exchange an item.

Pendant

Created from ceramic discovered in River Tees August 2020

Re-Created into pendant December 2020

In August 2020 while out walking the banks of the River Tees, Barnard Castle, Co Durham I came across a small concentration of broken bits of pottery. A common practice of shoring up a river bank is to use hardcore that often has household ceramics crushed in. I particularly love finding bits of pot in rivers, I love the idea of old household unwanted ceramic being used, all those memories. Some bits will remain where dumped but a lot will move with the river which adds to the experience of discovering.

I found this long green and white shard in the river Tees, Abbey Lane, just below Eggleston Abbey, Barnard Castle. It was a bright sunny day and the river was running slow. The previous few days had been heavy rain which churns up the river and different bits and bobs get exposed. This piece was sitting in the river upright with the distinctive green and white pattern showing.

I love the shape and have only sanded and sealed the sharp edges. When I drilled the hole the inside pot material was quite crumbly so the hole isn’t perfect.

Considering it was sitting in the river quite muddy this piece of ceramic is quite clean.

The pendant is hanging on non leather woven cord, 44cm plus 5cm extender.

Shard measures approxiamtely 50mm x 10mm x 5mm.
