I AM UPDATING PRODUCT BOXES FOR JEWELLERY AND DECORATIONS WHICH WILL TAKE AWHILE, IF YOU PURCHASE YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR ORDER IN THE NEW BOXES AS DESCRIBED BELOW.
Jewellery boxes are made from FSC®-certified cardboard and water-based glue. Jewellery box inserts are made from tall oil, a by-product of wood pulp industry. All paper, card, glue, inks and delivery boxes used are made from recycled materials.
I love collecting things that have been discarded, anything that looks lost, forgotten or damaged and not wanted any more. Favourite places of mine to discover bits is rivers or beaches. I am lucky to live near the River Tees, Co Durham and often walk the banks picking up broken glass, pottery anything that can be cleaned and re-created into something new. Other amazing places are recycling centres or charity shops I can find an old pot or plate, bits and bobs of lives all waiting to find new homes. I bought the decorative wall plate used to create these earrings from a charity shop in Bishop Auckland, Co Durham. The plates were in a box full of broken ceramics and the busy intricate pattern really stood out. I never know what I’ll make until I start the process of creating shards, from then on the experience is creative and exciting.

Hand crafted Jewellery and framed artworks using pre loved and discarded ceramics. Entire process is a creative experience from discovery to final picture, nothing planned or preconceived. All materials personally collected from river banks, charity shops, roadside, woods, recycle centres, beaches, wherever dropped, dumped or donated ceramics are found, cleaned and shaped into new stories. Each titled piece comes with bio of where the ceramic came from, known history, original information and when the artwork was created. Some ceramics collected are used as found, while others are cut randomly which will shape the final picture. Every piece is individual, nothing replicated, however, due to repetitive patterns in ceramics there will be some similarity but only through the ceramic material not in the final piece.

Created from Ceramic Wall Plate
Discovered August 2020
Re-Created into Earrings December 2020
In August 2020 I found a small decorative wall plate which was damaged and destined for recycling. I love collecting and immediately saw how attractive the pattern appeared with intricate swirls and flowers. The plate was chipped and cracked badly but realised the detailed pattern would be perfect for creating shards for any project but particularly small pieces of jewellery.
I gently clipped the plate with a small tile cutter, the ceramic broke into tiny pieces some random shapes formed but due to the make-up of the material many little shards were created in similar shapes.
No two shards are the same, the nature of the original pattern dictates many pieces are very similar and suggest lovely delicate patterned jewellery.
These earrings are the first pair made from this plate, I haven’t altered their original shard shape, only sanded any rough edges. I think the colours and delicate pattern works well with non identical but similar shapes.
Both earrings are approximately 10mm x 7mm x 3mm
These earrings are unique, completely one of a kind, although I will be using the rest of the ceramic plate material for other jewellery or art projects I will not create another pair of earrings in the same form.
All shards are part of a family, F for family and S for shards, and a number that represents when created.
