This piece of broken pottery we found on the beach is a classic example of old transferware. It has come from a serving platter by Copeland Spode called Spode Byron. Transfers were of only one colour - in this case brown. To add more colour to the china plate a second colour was applied by hand; in this case the green leaf. You can see how the green was added quickly and somewhat inexpertly as it doesn't really match the transfer. We have tumbled the pendant so it is rounded and smooth. Because the pottery has spent time in the water there is a faint pattern on the top right side of the pendant where the glaze is cracked, which we think adds to the feeling of history of the piece. This is a large eye-catching pendant with a beautiful design in vine leaves.
The pendant is 6.2 cm high, 5 cm wide and 5 mm thick. It comes on a 50 cm (approx. 20 inches) fine silver plate trace chain. If you would prefer a shorter chain please let us know the length you would like.
Our jewellery is made in Chudleigh, Devon, using materials we collect ourselves from local beaches. Each piece of pottery is unique, so each piece of jewellery is unique. We only use materials which have rounded edges, which is why we tumble pieces which have rough edges (this continues the process begun by the waves) until they are smooth.
The pendant will be delivered by first class mail. We usually post items within one working day of receiving payment.
