Full description
We found the black material we used to make this stunning necklace on a special beach. In the past the beach was used by fishermen to proof their nets against rotting in the sea. The fishermen boiled the nets in a cauldron on the beach in water with birch bark in it. From the 1950s synthetic materials began to replace traditional fibres such as cotton, and eventually the cauldrons disappeared. We believe the material we found is old clinker from the furnace which was used to heat the cauldron. It looks like volcanic rock and is full of small holes. The pieces we have used to make the necklace have all been perfectly smoothed by the waves and have a slight sheen as can be seen in the photos. The contrast of the black and dark grey stone with the bright red shiny glass beads makes this an unusual and eye-catching piece.

The necklace is 56 cm long. The centre stone is 2 cm high and 1.5 cm deep.
Our jewellery is made in Chudleigh, Devon, using materials we collect ourselves from local beaches. Each pebble is unique, so each piece of jewellery is unique.
The pendant will be delivered by first class mail. We usually post items within one working day of receiving payment.
