I wanted to add an artists apron to the range that had a heritage look but all the features of my contemporary makers aprons. Artists aprons and smocks were traditionally made of undyed linen, cotton or hemp and I found this gorgeous thick organic ecru denim and paired it with hickory (or railroad in US) stripe denim, itself a classic workerwear fabric.
Working from my little studio, in hilly-leafy South-East London, I make workwear aprons in small batches, using natural fabrics, with minimal waste. I always choose fabrics that are washable and hardwearing, constructing aprons that will last many years longer than normal clothes, retaining their designed purpose and functionality.
I nicknamed this apron Milkman because it reminds me of the white coats and stripey trousers of the milkman who used to deliver everybody's milk in the mornings, back in the 70's when I was a child.
