Thank you for supporting my independent business. - Agnis

The first lockdown was a difficult period for everyone in many different ways. I realised that for me personally to be able to find ways to navigate the many different experiences and emotions, I was going to need a little lockdown project!

The reason for creating placemats was that food was such a theme throughout the first lockdown especially at the beginning when so many of us had taken for granted being able to access pasta, flour (and toilet roll!) whenever we wanted. The lockdown also heightened my awareness of how many people don't know where the next meal is going to come from.

£5.00 from each pair of placemats sold will be donated to the Trussell Trust who have food banks all across the country to support those in need of food.

This item will be posted to you by Agnis Smallwood within 7 days of receiving payment.

Full description

These beautiful hand woven placemats will be sure to brighten up any table all year round. They are woven using a unique handspun yarn in the weft and a solid coloured yarn in the warp to ensure strength. I have woven the placemats using plain weave, sometimes also referred to as tabby weave to allow the hand spun yarn to shine!

Each placemat is uniquely different. This listing is for a set of 2 placemats.

For years I have collected the fibres that have been left at the end of workshops with the idea that I would use them at some point for something! I prepared the fibre by first carding (combing) it all before then spinning it to produce a beautiful yarn. This yarn was used within the weft to weave with before the placemats are then washed and ironed. This has resulted in a series of placemats in 5 colourways.

Approximate size is 24.5 x 37 (including fringe) cm

£5.00 from the sale of this set of 2 placemats will be donated to the Trussell Trust, a brilliant charity with a network of food banks across the UK providing emergency food and support.

How to take care of your placemats. If you discover that you need to wash your placemats do so in lukewarm water to avoid shrinkage and leave to dry before ironing under a tea towel.

Please note that these placemats will not protect against high heats and therefore should not be used for hot crockery, saucepans etc.
