Full description

A fine silver cockle shell on a sterling silver trace chain.

The cockle shell measures approximately 1.1cm x 1.2cm.

The chain is approximately 18 inches or 44cm long.

This necklace was inspired by the shells I see on my regular walks along the Thanet coastline.

I found the cockle shell that this is moulded from when I was at an outdoor monthly craft fair overlooking Margate Main Sands.

I loved the size and detail of the shell, so I took an impression using Siligum. I then used a compound called silver clay which is recycled pure silver combined with a little binder and water to mould the shell. This was left to dry completely then fired in my kiln, which burnt off the water and binder leaving pure fine silver.
