I have decorated this brooch with a scrolled technique. Enamels are particularly adapted to this technique.
After building up a solid base of several layers of either white or clear enamel I add a single layer of coloured enamel. After firing that I add other colours randomly, either by scattering small heaps of enamel powder on the base or by setting sections of enamel rod on it. When the piece reaches red heat in the kiln I draw through the surface with a steel point to disturb the colours and draw them into a pattern. This is not a controlled activity in the sense that the colours move in ways i can predict and arrange; I get what the material allows.
Each pattern is unique.

I have made this brooch by first building up several layers of clear enamel on the copper shape that forms its base. I then added scatterings of gold, white and amethyst enamel and while the piece was in the kiln at red hot, drew through the surface to generate the swirled pattern. As light strikes the brooch the copper base may be seen in tones of golden brown.
This brooch measures 40mm by 30mm. It is mounted on a 26mm brooch bar I have soldered to the copper base. The pin secures with a rotating catch.
Your brooch will be sent boxed, by Royal Mail first class large letter, signed for.
