Full description
We have quite a large lawn and in the evenings we can have up to 9 blackbirds walking about looking for insects. It's hilarious when they stretch right up to get a better view of what's in the grass, (I have done a lot of watching)! There is much blackbird song throughout the day which is really lovely to hear when in my studio.
Designed and handmade at my home studio in Cheshire, England.
I start each design by drawing from nature before cutting the glass.
My birds are made from 2 layers of thin glass. To this I add ground coloured glass and wire. My blackbird has some hand painting on the top layer, to give definition to the shape. The surface is over-glazed and fired in a kiln.
The roughly blackbird sized naturalistic bird stands on a piece of tree trunk cut and saved from our garden. I dry the wood for over a year before it's ready to cut and sand before mounting a bird into.
The bird and his log measure 16 cm tall, 19 cm across and the log is 4.5 cm deep.
He would make a great gift for any bird lover.
