I have decorated this brooch with a scrolled technique. Enamels are particularly adapted to this technique.
After building up a solid base of several layers of clear enamel I add a single layer of coloured enamel. After firing that I add other colours randomly, either by scattering small heaps of enamel powder on the base or by setting sections of enamel rod on it. When the piece reaches red heat in the kiln I draw through the surface with a steel point to disturb the colours and draw them into a pattern. This is not a controlled activity in the sense that the colours move in ways i can predict and arrange; I get what the material allows.
Each pattern is unique.

Full description
This brooch is a swirl of colours with the copper base adding its own glints of golden brown as the light strikes the piece at different angles.
The brooch measures 39mm by 29mm at its widest points. It is mounted on a 26mm brooch bar with a rolling catch. The bar is soldered to the brooch.
