Item details

I had a whim, many months ago, to knit a Noah's Ark. I found the pattern by Alana Dart & off I went....... I'm quite a fast knitter, buut this project has taken most of my Summer & Autumn, what with knitting & making up the 36 characters & knitting the Ark, sewing in the zip & velcro etc.

However, I've had so much fun creating new animals, it's been worth the time & effort.

Full description

The animals went in two-by-two..........This is a beautiful hand knitted Ark with 36 characters, based on the pattern by the incredible Alan Dart, but with some different animals & a few tweaks of my own.

The Ark measures 50cm long x 25cm wide and is aproximately 52cm tall. The hull of the Ark forms the storage box for the animals as the deck has a zip and the house can be removed as it's attached using velcro.

The characters are: Mr & Mrs Noah and 2 each of the following; Elephants; Kangaroos; Lions; Zebras; Camels; Giraffes; Hippos; Koalas; Snakes; Monkeys; Crocodiles; Bears; Turtles; Geese; Toucans; Mice; and of course the two doves.

This would make a gorgeous 'heirloom' present for someone at Christmas or for a special birthday. As a few of the pieces use pipe cleaners, to make them bendy, I wouldn't recommend giving it to a child under 3 or 4 - although having said that, the pipe cleaners are bent over and bound carefully at the ends so they are not sharp.

Everything on the Ark is stitched rather than glued as with Alan dart's pattern, so there are no eyes or noses to fall off!
