My mother and grandmother both had stashes of buttons, most of which were purchased before I was born (and I remember the ‘Swinging 60’s’!).
I used to love to play with the buttons, plunging my tiny hands into the tins and jars of multi-coloured 'gems'. I spent hours sorting them into coloured piles, size relation piles, design piles and any other pile I could think of.
Decades later, after I had inherited the tins and jars of historical lovelies, I came up with the 'brilliant' idea of sharing the love with whomever would like to adorn their creations with something a bit different, a bit 'special'.
Happy Hunting!

Prospective customers from outside UK & Europe ** There is an International Economy rate of postage provided by Royal Mail UK, if you don't mind the possibility of the package taking longer to get to you (it travels by surface mail, not airmail). This option applies to Outside Europe and the Rest of the World only. The main downside, as stated, is the time. Royal Mail quotes up to 6-8 weeks for Rest of the World (outside Europe). If you are interested in this option, please message me before purchase. I will create a listing just for you - using the Economy rate and will let you know the listing is ready for your purchase commitment. Thank you ** ***All postage rates quoted are for straight posting. If you require insurance to be added to your postage, please message me before purchase. I will create a listing just for you - with the option of insurance added and let you know the listing is ready for your purchase commitment. Thank you***

‘Ludovicus Rex Non Capit Orbis’ translates from Latin into ‘There Is No Room In The World For More Than One King Ludwig’ (or Louis).
This is the legend stamped around the circumference of the buttons. The forms of two men or angels stands either side of a large shaped barrel-like structure, within which is an oval containing 3 (I have since discovered) Fleur-de-Lis which stand for purity and light and is the floral badge of France. Apparently, the central portion of the design is reminiscent of the coat of arms on show at the Palace of Versailles in Paris, France (another link to French royalty).
A set of 7 buttons on the card. These 2 piece buttons (i.e. face and bottom pieces crimped together around the circumference) are cast from metal, probably copper based and each has a very robust shank to attach the button to the garment, such as a blazer or coat. They have a diameter of 16mm.
These buttons are in excellent condition. It is possible that they have never been used before.
Please note: These buttons do not have holes drilled into them (such as all the other’s I’ve seen online). The buttons are intact and have a shank on the reverse.
Each button is 16mm in diameter.
