I have been exploring the possibilities of Gold Filled sheet and wire for some time. Gold filled is so much better quality than plated gold - you don't get the allergy problems and flaking that you do with cheaper gold plate I had made this same pedant in sterling silver so was delighted to see at last I could buy GOLD FILLED sheet in the UK - time to experiment ! I am very pleased with the result and hope you will like this too.

This lovely heart shaped pendant is crisp, clean and non fussy the perfect piece that is appropriate for both work and evening wear.
Hand sawn from 0.7mm 14kt gold filled sheet it has been hammered upon a piece of soft wood to create a subtle texture, this process causes the metal to dome. The bail, which is articulated to allow free movement, was also hand sawn from 14kt gold filled sheet and lightly textured, shaped over a mandrel before being attached to the heart. Finally I polished the pendant to a high shine and suspended it form an 18inch (45cm) chain also gold filled.The heart measures 37mm (d) x 40mm (w) and the bail is 12mm long and 8mm at the widest point.
What is Gold Filled ?
Gold filled is an amazing alternative to solid gold. An actual layer of gold, which must constitute at least 5% of the items total weight, that is pressure bonded to either sterling silver or a base metal ( usually brass). Gold filled jewellery has a much higher amount of gold and therefore more valuable that gold plate. It is durable, will not tarnish or chip and will have a life of 10 to 30 yrs. It is also safe for those with metal allergies. You can’t say the same for gold plate where the amount of gold is minimal will tarnish, chip, flake away and causes allergies.
