Chain mail is a tactile medium which combines some characteristics of fabric and some of metal.It has movement and form , multiple surfaces reflect the light to give a lovely sparkle. This necklace is presented in a magnetic close box.
Chain mail has always been linked to craftmanship ,traditionally made by Black smiths I translate ancient weaves with a twist in design as a contemporary Silversmith.
Each piece starts life as one continuous length of 0.9mm wire which I hand wind into coils before cutting into rings with a piercing saw. The rings are then woven into a pattern specific to its origin, the foundation for this piece is the Celtic weave. The woven rings are manipulated into a pattern .The mail is then incorporated into the final piece by attaching and finishing to a chain. The piece is then put into polish.Once finished the piece is wrapped in acid free tissue paper, put into and put into an organza bag. The bag is inserted into a pillow box with the addition of some raffia if the package needs more padding.The pillow box is finished with a ribbon and put into a padded bag ready for despatch.
