Silk sari ribbon is a by product from silk sari manufacturing in India. These beautiful art yarns are hand cut strips of silk sari fabric and tied or sewn together end to end and made into skeins by women's collectives in India from silk that would otherwise be destroyed.
This really is a fabulous unique eco-friendly and fair trade yarn for your original fibre art projects. It is suitable for knitting, crochet, rug hooking, bags, wall hangings, jewellery, weaving and all sorts of fibre art projects.
I buy these ethical yarns directly from women's co-operatives. They are magical and inspirational like the women that produce them.
India has a population of over one billion people with huge disparities of wealth. It is both reassuring and inspiring that these co-operatives are educating, employing and empowering women to take control of their finances, enabling to send their children to school, and to take charge of the family income. It is also reassuring to see how well established the Co-operative Movement is and it is our hope to better the lives of people through trade, skills and education.
Let your imagination go wild with this fabulous and inspirational fair trade silk sari ribbon yarn, there really is nothing like it.
